Accessibility at the NYS Library

Access for Mobility-Impaired Visitors

The New York State Library, the Cultural Education Center where the Library is located, and other public facilities of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza are accessible to visitors with mobility impairments.

The public elevators serving the Cultural Education Center are wheelchair accessible. The main State Library entrance is on the seventh floor; Manuscripts and Special Collections are located on the eleventh floor.

The Library's public telephone and restrooms are also wheelchair accessible. A wheelchair is available for use by Library patrons.

Access for Hearing-Impaired Visitors

The Library's public telephone can be amplified.

Access for Visually-Impaired Visitors

The State Library's Talking Book and Braille Library maintains a Public Service Center on the 7th floor. The public elevator floor numbers are labeled in braille. Enlarging systems are available to enable the partially sighted to read paper and microfiche publications in the Library's collections.
