Talking Book and Braille Library

The New York State Talking Book and Braille Library (TBBL) lends braille and recorded books and magazines, and the necessary equipment to play recorded books, to residents of the 55 upstate counties of New York State who are unable to read standard printed materials because of a visual or physical disability.

TBBL is the Regional Library for the upstate region in the nationwide program coordinated by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), a division of the Library of Congress, in Washington DC. TBBL is also a unit of the New York State Library.

Catalog: Anyone can search the online catalog to see what books TBBL has. However, if you are registered to borrow books from TBBL you can also use the catalog to add books to your request list. To do this, you must call us at (800) 342-3688 and tell us what you want your user ID and password to be. We will explain the requirements.

Teachers: A small number of Videos are available for loan from our library.  Teachers may borrow them to use in a classroom setting or when working with students on units about diversity or blindness/visual impairments.

Librarians: Promote TBBL services to eligible youth and adult patrons within your library. Print the TBBL Brochure and sign to display near your audiobook collection.
